چکیده

Mysore State can roughly be divided into two parts, the Malnad and the Maidan. The first is named from the excessive rainfall it receives, and the second from the plains. The Malnad is a long strip of land bordering on the Western Ghats and comprises parts of Shimoga, Kadur, Hassan and Mysore districts (vide map 1). In the Malnad the annual rainfall ranges from 35 inches to 300 inches and the whole area is densely wooded and forested. In the northernmost part of this area lies Shimoga district, and in the same part run the three rivers Tunga, Bhadra and the Tungabhadra (vide maps 2 and 3).

Impact of DDT indoor residual spraying on Phlebotomus argentipes in a kala-azar endemic village in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Data on the operational efficacy of DDT indoor residual spraying against Phlebotomus argentipes, the vector of kala-azar in India, are scarce. We therefore undertook a study of the impact on kala-azar and its vector of DDT indoor residual spraying in the Varanasi district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary results indicate that after two rounds of DDT spraying in one village no P. argentipes...

Seasonal relationship between normalized difference vegetation index and abundance of the Phlebotomus kala-azar vector in an endemic focus in Bihar, India.

Remote sensing was applied for the collection of spatio-temporal data to increase our understanding of the potential distribution of the kala-azar vector Phlebotomus argentipes in endemic areas of the Vaishali district of Bihar, India. We produced monthly distribution maps of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) based on data from the thematic mapper (TM) sensor onboard the Landsat...
